SETTING: 9/11 Events

Reflect on what we have been learning about regarding the impact of setting. 1) What was the actual setting of the 9/11 tragedy?  (location AND time ) 2) How would things be different if the location were different? 3) How would things be different if the time were different? (Think about the time of day)

Unit 1 Voc Poster

Get your vocabulary poster from the hallway.  Take a picture of your poster and insert it into your blog.   Then answer the following reflection questions: What grade do you feel your poster deserves?  Why? What was the biggest take away (what did you learn) from creating your poster and completing the gallery walk?   What do you wish you had done differently?

American Flag

Thinking about the ACE method we learned about in class, write an 8th-grade quality response to the following blog prompt: What Do You See? •  In your opinion, what does the American flag symbolize? •  What do you think people who live in other countries think when they see the American flag? •  Do you think America has a unique sense of pride in its nation?

Remembering 9/11

Look at the picture below.  This is one of the memorials at the World Trade Center site.  All of the names of the people who died are on this memorial reflection pool.   Why do you think this memorial was built?  How do you think this memorial can help the families of those who lost their lives?   Explain using specific evidence from what you have learned about 9/11. ** Remember to write an 8th-grade quality response..... details, details, details! I want to clearly know what you are thinking. **

J.K. Rowling -- Inspiration

Famous Inspiration “It is impossible to live without failing at something, unless you live so cautiously that you might as well not have lived at all, in which case you have failed by default.” –J. K. Rowling Read and respond to the quote.  Do you agree or disagree with the quote?  How can the quote relate to or impact YOUR life?
